Artificial intelligence company Anthropic has acquired developer tools startup Stainless, a platform widely used by major tech firms including OpenAI, Google, and Cloudflare. The move signals Anthropic’s growing focus on strengthening its developer ecosystem and expanding its influence in AI-powered coding infrastructure.
Stainless became known for helping companies automatically generate and maintain APIs and software development tools, making it easier for developers to build and integrate applications. The startup was founded by former Stripe engineer Alex Rattray and gained traction among leading AI companies for its automation capabilities.
Following the acquisition, Stainless is expected to phase out its hosted services while its technology and team become part of Anthropic’s broader developer strategy. The deal reflects increasing competition among AI companies to control the tools developers rely on for building next-generation applications.
Anthropic has recently accelerated its enterprise and developer-focused expansion through products like Claude Code and its open AI integration standards. The Stainless acquisition could further strengthen Anthropic’s position in the rapidly evolving AI software ecosystem
